How Vinfo uses AI to turn a vehicle's MOT and history data into plain-English insight about what it's like to own.
How AI Adds to Your Vehicle Check
A history check tells you what has happened to a vehicle. Vinfo's AI, powered by Google Gemini, goes a step further: it reads the MOT test and defect history and explains what it means for the road ahead — the repairs likely to come up, the faults this model is known for, and the rough costs to budget for.
These insights are estimates to help guide your decision. They're generated from the data on record and are not a substitute for an inspection by a qualified mechanic.
What the AI Produces
Predicted maintenance
A list of repairs and replacements likely to come up next, based on the vehicle's age, mileage and recent MOT advisories — things like:
- Brake discs, pads and tyres approaching their limit
- Suspension and exhaust components flagged as advisories
- Wear items due at the next service interval
Risk categorisation
Findings from the history are grouped by severity — critical, high, medium and low — and each one comes with:
- A plain-English description of the issue
- Its likely impact on ownership
- What you can do to prevent or manage it
Model-specific issues
Common, well-documented faults for that make, model and engine — the problems owners and mechanics tend to see, so you know what to check for on a test drive.
💷 Cost & Milestone Summary
Rough cost estimates for the predicted work, plus the maintenance milestones the vehicle is approaching by mileage (major service, cambelt, and similar), and a short pros-and-cons summary for the model.
How It Works
MOT failure items and advisories are written in technical language. The AI reads them and explains, in everyday terms:
- What each advisory actually means for the car
- Which issues recur across several tests
- How urgent each one is likely to be
Using the vehicle's age, recorded mileage and its most recent advisories, the AI estimates which components are closest to needing attention — brakes, tyres, suspension, exhaust and common wear items — and roughly when.
It also lists the maintenance milestones the car is approaching by mileage, so you can factor a major service or cambelt into your offer.
For the specific make, model and engine, the AI summarises the faults that model is widely known for — the issues owners' forums and mechanics repeatedly report — so you know exactly what to check on a viewing.
Your Full Check shows industry valuation figures for the vehicle — retail, private sale and part-exchange. The AI adds a short written breakdown of what's pushing the figure up or down for this particular car: mileage, spec, MOT record and history findings.
How Risks Are Categorised
On a Full Check, the AI groups what it finds into four levels so you can see at a glance what needs attention:
Risk Levels
A deal-breaker — e.g. outstanding finance or a stolen marker. Don't proceed without resolving it.
A serious concern such as a recorded write-off or a mileage discrepancy. Investigate before buying.
Worth factoring into the price — recurring MOT advisories, several keepers, upcoming major service.
Minor points and general upkeep — good to know, but no cause for concern on their own.
Each item is listed with a description, its likely impact, and what you can do about it.

Trust & Transparency
- Explained, not just asserted: every insight is shown with the reasoning behind it
- Estimates, not verdicts: insights are guidance to inform your decision, not a pass/fail on the car
- Powered by Google Gemini: the analysis runs on the vehicle's MOT and history data

AI insight is a strong starting point, but for any significant purchase we still recommend a physical inspection and test drive.
